DFW January foreclosures fall 6%

Provided By Dallas Business Journal

The number of foreclosed Dallas-Fort Worth area homes up for auction in January is 6 percent lower than last year, according to Addison-based Foreclosure Listing Service.

In D-FW, 5,543 homes landed in the January 2011 foreclosure auction pool, down from 5,894 a year earlier.

While Foreclosure Listing Service recorded seven months of falling foreclosure postings in the past 9 months, the company's CEO George Roddy Sr. said the area is not out of the woods yet.

"D-FW residential foreclosure posting activity for January remained on the extreme high end in this foreclosure cycle," said Roddy in a statement. "Until a significant amount of workers begin to be re-employed, there is simply no reason for foreclosure postings to decline. Even re-employment in today's market does not assure that a family's bills will be paid because many workers are being hired at wages far lower than at their previous job."

Sea Life Aquarium is coming to Grapevine Mills

Published By Dallas Business Journal
Written By Kerri Panchuk

Grapevine Mills is getting a Sea Life Aquarium in the summer of 2011 to further expand on the shopping center and the city’s plan to turn Grapevine into a destination for families.

Merlin Entertainments has reached an agreement with The Mills, a Simon Co., and the City of Grapevine to create plans for the $15 million Sea Life Aquarium at Grapevine Mills.

The new attraction will sit across from Legoland Discovery Centre, another hot spot for family-friendly entertainment.

The aquarium will be Merlin’s fourth Sea Life attraction in the United States. Plans call for a two-story, 45,000-square-foot aquarium that will house 30 different marine life displays featuring starfish, seahorses, sharks and rays.

“The Sea Life Aquarium will be the perfect complement to Grapevine Mills' already celebrated shopping and entertainment experience. We look forward to our partnership with Merlin Entertainments and are confident that families will revel in the deep sea wonders that the aquarium will bring," said Gregg Goodman, president of The Mills.

PLANNING NORTH TEXAS' FUTURE

Provided By RECON Real Estate Center Online News
Source Dallas Business Journal

The North Texas 2050 plan was unveiled Friday to prepare the region for the estimated population increase from its current six million people to nine million in 2030 and 12 million in 2050.

The plan provides a broad regional approach to issues that will be complicated by population increases, including transportation, development, education, health, environment, housing, economic development, energy and lifestyles.

Plans provide guidelines for businesses, governments, property owners, chambers of commerce, neighborhood associations and other organizations.

A few of the plan’s recommendations include:

  • The North Central Texas Council of Governments should develop an urban forest management plan and explore the use of fees to compensate for the impact of development.

  • The North Texas Housing Coalition should guide cities, developers, builders and property owners in improving housing availability, variety, value and quality.

  • The Regional Transportation Council should develop and adopt a mobility plan, and transportation officials should provide systems with more travel mode options.

  • A team should be formed to monitor the region’s environmental carbon footprint.
Vision North Texas is a partnership of the Urban Land Institute North Texas District Council, the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the University of Texas at Arlington. Hundreds of government, business and other groups were involved creating the plan. To read more of this article click here.
